Global recovery fuels Taiwan's export prospects
Latest figure indicates real sector growth in September
Taiwan's external sector continues to improve in September as global demand recovers. Export figures for September saw the highest output since Q3 2008, however, data has not buck the trend on year-on-year basis. September exports totalled USD 19.07 billion or 12.7% decline year-on-year, a 13 consecutive months contraction. Import figures for September reflected the fall in export demands. Historic milestone between Taiwan and China
A memorandum of understanding on financial regulatory cooperation was inked simultaneously in Taipei and Beijing at 6 p.m. on November 16, 2009. Once the MOU comes into effect, each side will be allowed to set up bank branches in the other’s territory. China’s qualified domestic institutional investors (QDIIs) will also be allowed to invest in Taiwan’s stock market.

20 years of regional cooperation
Leaders of APEC gathered in Singapore on November 14-15, 2009 and marked 20 years of cooperation in promoting economic growth and prosperity for the Asia Pacific region. The 21 Pacific Rim economies agreed a new growth strategy is needed for the changed post-crisis landscape to sustain durable recovery, but they failed to agree on a reference to currency movements.
