Both manufacturing and service sectors are bullish towards 2010 |
Taiwan’s external sector continues to recover as global outlook improves. Exports in December saw higher export volumes in all its top export categories. On YoY terms, exports in December went up by 46.9%, or USD 20.03 billions, a new high over the past 14 months. DGBAS raises 2010 GDP growth forecast to 4.72% |
With both exports and private investment expected to reach double-digital growth, the Cabinet-level Directorate General of Budget, Accounting, and Statistics(DGBAS) raised its economic growth forecast for Taiwan to a three-year high 4.72% in 2010. As the economy continues to recover, the January jobless rate slipped further, for the fifth straight month, to 5.68%, a one-year low. |

2nd round of official negotiation on ECFA expected to take place in March |
On February 21st the Minister of Economic Affairs Shih Yen-shiang said that the second round of ECFA talks on a proposed cross-strait economic cooperation framework agreement (ECFA) will possibly take place in Taipei in early March. Among the issues that are expected to be addressed in the second round of official negotiation, according to the MOEA officials, will be the “early harvest” lists of both sides, identifying items that could initially benefit from the agreement. |
