The manufacturing sector remains upbeat despite the looming crisis in the Euro area
While service sector grew more cautious due to capital market volatility |
Taiwan’s external sector continues to sore as global outlook recovers. Exports saw a seventh month strong year-on-year rebound in May with exports soared by 57.9% or USD 25.54 billions. Imports for May reflected the increase in export demands as well as new investment initiative, which was a 71.4% increase year-on-year, with a trade surplus of USD 3.25 billions. Cumulative export data for the first five months of 2010 saw an increase of 52.7% YoY, or USD 109.26 billion, with a cumulative trade surplus of USD 10.71 billion, USD 3.22 billion less than the same period in the previous year. IMF raises Taiwan's GDP forecast for 2010 |
The International Monetary Fund(IMF) has raised this year's forecast for global growth from 4.2% to 4.6%. The international organization reported the world economy has a robust growth, mainly due to steady growth in Asia. It has also raised its forecast for Taiwan, from 6.5% to 7.7%. The IMF also said that Asia has bottomed out of the 2008-2009 financial crisis and that the region's average GDP for 2010 could hit 7.5%. |

The sixth Cross-strait Forum concluded with 22 joint proposals |
The sixth Cross-strait Economic, Trade and Culture Forum closed on July 11th in Guangzhou with an adoption of 22 joint proposals for cross-strait cooperation in various aspects. Both sides agreed to work together to enhance international competitiveness, to promote emerging strategic industries, and to strengthen cooperative ties in green energy development. Suggestions for disaster prevention and relief support are also considered and discussed among others in the proposals. |
