Global demand recovery driven by accelerated vaccination rate worldwide
TIER forecasts Taiwan’s annual GDP growth rate at 5.40% in 2021
Despite variant viruses continue to cause impacts on many countries, the global demand has been rebounding because of increasing vaccination rate worldwide, especially advanced countries, the major market demand of end products. Therefore, Dr. Morris Chang urged APEC members with large vaccine production capabilities to help countries in the Asia-Pacific region meet urgent vaccine needs in this year's Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) forum on July 16th. Nevertheless, international forecasting agencies such as IHS Markit and EIU have continued to adjust their forecasts for the world GDP growth upward. In response to the most recent COVID-19 outbreak, Taiwan has adopted a Three-level Alert measure since May 15th, whereas the measure could have impacted on domestic services. TIER raises economic growth forecast to 5.4%
The Taiwan Institute of Economic Research (TIER) on July 23rd raised its forecast for Taiwan’s GDP growth this year to 5.4 percent, as exports and private investment fare stronger than expected amid an improving global economy. “Exports will thrive for the rest of this year, while private investment remains healthy, thanks to the effort of local companies to upgrade and expand to maintain their global technology leadership and meet customer needs,” TIER president Chang Chien-yi told an online news conference. Exports and imports of both goods and services are now forecast to expand 14.03 percent and 14.72 percent this year, much faster than its earlier estimate of 5.64 percent and 4.97 percent gains respectively, the TIER report showed. Global competition on talent acquisition in the post-COVID-19 era
After the COVID-19 epidemic, the industrial pattern has changed, accelerating the development of remote and digital technology service industries. In response to rapid industrial adjustments, governments of various countries have actively recruited talents to seize future business opportunities. This issue analyzes international talent trends from the "IMD World Talent Ranking Report" and analyzes the net inflow and net outflow of talent in Asia-Pacific countries through the talent mobile database built by the world's largest talent pool, LinkedIn and Word Bank. The international talent mobility trend and Taiwan's industrial policy to recruit talents are also introduced.
