Global economic conditions turning from fragile to stable
TIER business composite indices show some brighter signs |
| The US economy has been gradually getting rid of negative impacts such as bitter winter weather, west coast strike, plunging crude prices, and stronger greenback. The US Bureau of Economic Analysis adjusted its estimate for the 1st quarter this year upward by 0.2 percentage points to 2.9% year-on-year. The 1st quarter GDP growth of Euro zone stood at 1.0% year-on-year, which does seem very solid given a higher base period last year. The Cabinet office of Japan still has strong faith in the effect of BOJ’s QQE, despite the fact that relevant readings of 1st quarter were rather miserable. China’s economy is hitting a soft patch; however, the Chinese is preparing for another round of monetary easing. In conclusion, the global economy seems turning from fragile to a more stable status. | July sees wage increase and other policy updates |
| A series of new policies are set for implementation this July, ranging from the widely talked about minimum wage increase to restrictions on smoking while riding a scooter or motorcycle, as well as bylaws to be enacted by local governments. Nationwide, monthly and hourly minimum wages have been adjusted to NT$20,008 and NT$120 respectively. Civilians will need to apply to the Food and Drug Administration for clearance for mailing items such as prescription and non-prescription medicine and contact lenses. Shrimp, crab, mangos, peanuts, milk, eggs and other food products will need to be clearly labeled so that people can avoid allergens. (Source: The China Post) |

Outlook, lessons and incentives plan of promoting Taiwan's energy saving
 Taiwan’s sustainable energy policy program was launched in 2008, then a new energy policy was initiated in 2011 followed by the 2015 national development plan. These are important energy saving plans at different stages. Thus, this article summarises the evolution of recent energy saving policy as well as the conclusions of national energy conference for enhancing electricity usage habit and better energy management.
